  • Amy Adams on 'The Wedding Date' & Filming in London
  • In the romantic comedy "The Wedding Date," Amy Adams plays Amy, the spoiled younger half-sister of Debra Messing's character, Kat. Amy's wedding prompts Kat into taking drastic measures. Not wanting to show up alone, Kat hires a handsome, smooth-talking, intelligent, professional male escort to make her ex-boyfriend jealous and keep her dysfunctional family from thinking she's still single. Amy Adams made her film debut in the dark comedy, "Drop Dead Gorgeous." She also appeared in "Psycho Beach Party," "Pumpkin," and "Serving Sara," starring Matthew Perry and Elizabeth Hurley. But it was her role as Leonardo DiCaprio's love interest in Steven Spielberg's "Catch Me If You Can" that really got her noticed.

Escorted on the red carpet at the World Premiere of "The Wedding Date" by her boyfriend and dad, Adams seemed to be having a blast reuniting with her "Wedding Date" co-stars Dermot Mulroney and Debra Messing.

REBECCA: How was working with Debra Messing?

AMY: She was great. She was really, really funny and really generous. Apparently she got pregnant while she was working on our film so it must have been a really great set. If you work the days out… I don’t know for a fact (laughing). I wasn’t present so…

REBECCA: I read that director Clare Kilner let you play with the script. Were you allowed to do a lot of improv?

AMY: Oh, she definitely let us play with the script. She just wanted us to be able to have the best chemistry that we could have, and really let the scenes happen. It was really great.

REBECCA: Did you do anything special to bond as a cast?

AMY: Well, we all got there early and we did a lot of rehearsing. To stay in London and being on location, you just bond with people.

REBECCA: Was there really a culture clash with Americans going to London and filming? Were there any strange things that happened on the set because of the cultural differences?

AMY: There was no protein for breakfast! They eat a lot of sweets and I am like a big eggs girl. I like omelettes and I like big breakfasts.

REBECCA: Were baked beans served at breakfast?

AMY: I think so. But they have really good bacon. It’s called 'back bacon'.

REBECCA: Did anything happen on the set that reminded you that you weren't filming in America?

AMY: There was no air conditioning and it was really, really hot. In America, everything is so air conditioned. I guess they’re not used to it there. We were boiling.

REBECCA: Maybe they’re not used to it because it’s never really that hot there?

AMY: It’s never hot. It was the hottest time there. It was a little over a year ago and it was one of the hottest periods on record so it was amazing. There was like people passing out – none of the actors, thankfully.

REBECCA: Have you ever been a bride in real life?

    AMY: No, I haven’t.

REBECCA: Did you learn anything from this film that you'll use when the big day comes? Is there anything you definitely will or will not do?

AMY: What I will do: I will have a full team of make-up artists and hairstylists so I don’t have to think about it, just like in the movie.

REBECCA: Do you have any strange wedding memories you can share?

AMY: I think when my cousin got married the minister said something that made me giggle. I was in the front row and I collapsed into giggles, but I do that a lot. I guess that’s not too bad.

REBECCA: Have you had any bad wedding dates?

AMY: I haven’t. My only wedding date is my current boyfriend whom I brought with me to my sister’s wedding after knowing him for two weeks. We took a road trip. I liked him!

    REBECCA: That sounds like fun.

AMY: Yeah, it was nice. It was wonderful. I’m one of seven and he was able to hang with all of my siblings. He was great. He was really attentive and that’s why he’s still here 2 ½ years later (laughing).

REBECCA: What else do you have in the works?

AMY: Well, I just had a film premiering in dramatic competition at Sundance called “Junebug.” Right now I’m kind of focused on that, getting that out there after I get this out there. And then back to the drawing board.
