It was announced this week that Amy Adams is following the steps of several movie starts and is heading to small screen. Variety reported that Amy has signed on to star in an adaptation of Sharp Objects, the novel of the same name from Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn.
“Sharp Objects” follows a reporter (played by Adams) who has to cover the murder of two preteen girls in her hometown following a brief stint in a psych hospital. Here’s the book synopsis:
Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: she must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful thirteen-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family’s Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims—a bit too strongly. Dogged by her own demons, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story—and survive this homecoming.
Dallas Buyers Club’s Jean-Marc Vallee has also signed on to direct the high-profile WME package, which is being shopped to cable and streaming outlets by Entertainment One and Blumhouse Productions. The drama is being written and exec produced by Marti Noxon (UnREAL, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce). Noxon will exec produce alongside Flynn. Vallee will also exec produce and direct. Blumhouse’s Blum and Charles Layton will also exec produce, with Nathan Ross attached as a co-EP. Noxon is set as showrunner.
