Amy Adams in 2017: A Year in Review

2017 is coming to its end and then I decided to put together, once again, a summary of Amy’s professional activities this year.

We started with Amy collecting the accolades for the amazing year she had in 2016 with Arrival and Nocturnal Animals.

The first event she attended was in January 3rd. She stepped out at the 2017 Palm Springs International Awards Gala, to receive the Chairman’s Award for her work in Arrival. Two days later, she attended the National Board of Review, again as winner. On the next day, she attended a W Magazine celebration for the Best Performances Portfolio which she was included. Again, the day next, she attended the AFI Awards Gala.

The awards season got busy, with Amy attending the Golden Globes, BAFTA Awards, SAG Awards, Directors Guild, Producers Guild… Amy was nominated in the every single awards BUT the Academy’s, which still infuriates me. This didn’t prevent her to attend, and presenting the Best Adapted Screenplay to Moonlight director Barry Jenkins.

Before the Academy unveiling their nominees, Amy was still promoting the movie. She visited Jimmy Kimmel and attended a Q&A at the SAG-Aftra Foundation, while kept doing interviews to several outlets.

Still in January, Amy was honored with at star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Jeremy Renner and Dennis Villeneuve was invited to speak about her, and she was joined by her family (Darren, Aviana and mother Kathryn, as well other family members).

After the awards season, we didn’t see her attending events for a while. Until July, when she received the Giffoni Experience award at the Giffoni Film Festival in Italy. In August, she attended the Annual Day of Indulgence Party, but the event wasn’t well covered by media. Only in November we saw her in a big event, going to LACMA Gala and the next day at the Hollywood Film Awards honoring Jake Gyllenhaal. Then, she was honored at the American Cinematheque Awards which what would be her last public event in 2017. Not many as we’re used to.

In March, Amy started filming scenes for Sharp Objects in Los Angeles. The 8-episodes mini-series is being one of the most anticipated TV Shows of 2018 and whilst we still are waiting for a release date, the first look has been unleashed in December by the EW magazine. At the wrapping of the production, in July, Amy received a gift by the Barnesville city (where the show has been filmed): July 8 is now Amy Adams Day in the city.

Still in March, the first trailer for Justice League was released. I wasn’t expecting Amy to promote this movie as much she did with the previous ones (Man of Steel and Batman v Superman), but I also wasn’t expecting ZERO promotion at all. Zach Snyder stepped down still in the post-production for personal reasons, and with Josh Whedon on board, the film was re-shoot to be reconfigured into the studio’s vision for it. Lots of scenes died in the cut board, and we had the first look of Lois Lane only in October. Sadly, Amy also didn’t attend any related event so we didn’t have the amazing interactions of her with Cavill or Gadot.

In April Amy was announced to be, once again, working with Christian Bale, this time in a Dick Cheney biopic. At first being called Backseat (and until today being only a rumoured name), she started filming in late September. Amy plays Lynne Cheney, Dick’s wife. The movie is eyeing a 2018 release date, but not confirmed.

With such a quiet year, we didn’t have much media coverage on Amy regarding magazines. But yet, she was on W Magazine ‘Best of’ portfolio, she was once again on the cover of Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue, and at the cover of New York Times Style ‘The Greats’ issue.

For last year, at first we only have confirmed Sharp Objects and Backseat, both already wrapped filming. Disenchanted still is in ‘announced’ status, and the Janis Joplin biopic won’t happen any longer, as announced by Jean-Marc Valée earlier this year. Hopefully we’ll have more of Amy next year.

So, that’s it! This is our last update of the year and, with it, I want to wish all our visitors a very happy New Year! Thanks for another year, for your visit, your comments, your friendship!

I want to give a thanks/shout-out to my friends Frederik from Simply Streep, Lindsey from Rachel McAdams Online and Jess from Glamour Reese for the inspiration on the ‘Year in Review’ special.

To finish, I wish Amy and her family the best in this coming year. Happy 2018!
